After getting the girls we won out of the building and into the waiting van we brought with us; we work our way through the rest of the place, getting all the girls still breathing out before I finally find who I’m looking for. Juniper helps clear the other rooms, killing anyone who’s still alive, while I head toward the sound of yelling.

The man from the other night comes running out of the room, hips and legs soaked in blood, and holding his hands over his eye. He tears off down the hallway at full speed when he realizes there’s no one here to save him. Considering how he looks, I figure I’ll just let him be.

For now.

Booking it to that last door and turning the corner, I’m met with one hell of a sight. She’s on the floor looking like she was trying to escape, but she's covered in blood and passes out the moment I get to the room. Taking in the surroundings, the bed is covered in a layer of fresh blood. There's a scalpel and a knife lying on the floor near the blood-soaked bed. It’s the scalpel that takes me off guard, though, because there's a human eye speared on to the thin metal.

“Hot damn, little lady. I knew you looked like a fighter,” I mumble as I bend down to scoop her up gently off the floor.

Once I have her safely in my arms, I turn and rush toward the back entrance. I take note that Juniper is following behind me with a look of accomplishment on her face underneath all the blood marring her features.

“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” I shout back to her when I see her slowing down to start checking rooms again.

“Fine!” she hollers back and speeds past me to open the door out to the back alley.

I load us into the back of the van with the other girls as June jumps in the front with Willow. I settle in and cradle this beautiful soul in my lap while we peel away from the area before the authorities or back-up show up to ruin everything.

I take a look around at all the other girls and can’t help but release the tear that falls down my cheek. They are all so fucking young and so fucking broken.

One of the younger ones looks up at me and shrieks as she points at me.

“What are you? You are crying blood!”

“Oh, honey, calm down. What I am makes no difference. Just know that you are safe from harm now.” I keep my tone as calm as possible.

How she saw the fresh blood tear on my face, I don’t know. Will, June, and I are pretty much covered in blood. But then again, when you live in the conditions they did, I’m sure they are more aware of any changes in anyone around them.

“Girls, my name is Ivy. Willow is the one driving and Juniper is the other one. We’re the Blackthorn Sisters and we came to take you away from the life you have lived in for God knows how long.
